GTAs are actively involved in student instruction and need to have a desire to work with first-year engineering students.<\/p>\n<p>GTA assistantships are a 20-hour-per-week commitment. Applicants need to be aware of this commitment when planning their graduate program. In particular, first-year students in the dual MS\/MBA program often do not have sufficient time to meet the requirements of this assistantship.\u00a0GTAs must be full-time graduate students in the Tickle College of Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>The assistantships carry a tuition waiver and stipend. Applicants are encouraged to explore the Engineering Fundamentals web site to learn more about the courses. <a href=\"https:\/\/ef.engr.utk.edu\/efp\/gtaapp\/Engage-GTA.mp4\">Watch a video\u00a0describing the responsibilities of being a GTA in Engineering Fundamentals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for the fall semester will be reviewed beginning March 1 and will continue until all positions are filled.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ef.engr.utk.edu\/efp\/gtaapp\/apply.php\">Apply for a graduate teaching assistant position<\/a>. To complete the application, you will need\u00a0a UT NetID or a local EF account.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ef.engr.utk.edu\/efp\/sys.php?f=user_account_create\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Create a local EF account.<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>[collapsibles]<\/p>\n<p>[collapse title=&#8221;Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistantship Award&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><b>The EF Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) award<\/b>\u00a0honors outstanding achievement in teaching by a graduate teaching assistant. Each semester, EF instructors will select one outstanding graduate teaching assistant to receive the $300 award. Each recipient will be formally recognized by having their name added to the EF Outstanding GTA plaque.<\/p>\n<p>The award winner will be chosen based on demonstration of excellence as evidenced by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Receiving the highest student accolades<\/li>\n<li>Enthusiasm for the subject<\/li>\n<li>Exceptional knowledge about the material<\/li>\n<li>Skilled at leading students through self-discovery of the material<\/li>\n<li>Additional effort and hours above and beyond assigned responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Taking a leadership role in guiding other TA\u2019s<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrating exceptional willingness to help students before, after, and outside of class<\/li>\n<li>Being encouraging and invested in student success on an individual level<\/li>\n<li>Being a valuable resource to students during projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/collapse]<\/p>\n<p>[collapse title=&#8221;Past Winners&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Past winners of the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistantship Award include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spring 2015: Jakob Brisby<\/li>\n<li>Fall 2015: Scott Polilgone<\/li>\n<li>Spring 2016: Stefy Stand<\/li>\n<li>Fall 2016: Rachel Thompson<\/li>\n<li>Spring 2017: Charlie Johnson<\/li>\n<li>Fall 2017: Danny Splane<\/li>\n<li>Spring 2018: Heather Kiger<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/collapse]<\/p>\n<p>[\/collapsibles]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) in the Engineering Fundamentals program lead EF 151 and 152 labs or EF 105 and EF 230 computer labs.
