Six student teams were awarded a spot on\u00a0the site&#8217;s featured page.<\/p>\n<p>EF 230 students have two large projects. One is to use an Arduino or Raspberry Pi microcontroller to create a smart train device, which\u00a0students demonstrate using a model train. The other project is to transform an\u00a0iRobot Roomba robot into\u00a0a\u00a0Mars Rover that\u00a0uses sensors and data obtained from\u00a0a live video feed. In both projects, students develop\u00a0 code in MATLAB.<\/p>\n<p>Links to the\u00a0instructables of the following winning teams are below:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.instructables.com\/id\/Model-Train-Speed-Control-Arduino\/\">View: Model Train Speed Co<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.instructables.com\/id\/Model-Train-Speed-Control-Arduino\/\">ntrol Arduino,<\/a> made by Eli Darby, Will Buttrey, and Jason Morrell.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.instructables.com\/id\/Communicating-Data-With-Arduino\/\">View: Communicating Data with Arduino<\/a>, made by Garrett Statum, Dustin Shults, and John Hill. This is an &#8220;Internet of Things&#8221; device that communicates sensor data over wi-fi to an API.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.instructables.com\/id\/SainSmart-Upright-Rover-Trust-Fall-Bot\/\">View: Self Balancing Robot,<\/a> made by Ifedayo Akinduro and Ryan Kelly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Students are learning both design and programming with the projects,&#8221; said Richard Bennett, professor and director of the <strong>engage<sup>tm<\/sup><\/strong> Engineering Fundamentals Program. &#8220;I would like to recognize Amy for her vision and creative teaching, Will Schleter for his helping to set up a lot of things so the projects would work, and the students who have really done a great job with the projects.
