\"Amy<\/p>\n

Amy Biegalski\u2014a.k.a. \u201cDr. B\u201d\u2014 is a lecturer in the\u00a0engage Engineering Fundamentals (EF) Program<\/a>. She supports Engineering Vols through courses that promote skill development in design, communication, teamwork, physics foundations, and programming.<\/p>\n

She is also happy to promote the courses themselves to anyone interested.<\/p>\n

\u201cCampus visitors are always welcome to come by Perkins (home to the EF program and the Innovation and Collaboration Studio) to interact with our EF students and learn about the hands-on team projects they are working on,\u201d said Biegalski.<\/p>\n

She and her\u00a0EF colleagues<\/a>\u00a0will also help advertise events or opportunities for engineering students via announcements on EF website\u2014 it can reach 700-1,200 students per semester.<\/p>\n

Biegalski contributes to a variety of programs that support student success.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am involved in our\u00a0Engage LLC<\/a>\u00a0(the engineering dorm), the Engineering Mentor Program, the\u00a0Office of Engineering Diversity Programs<\/a>, and the\u00a0UTK Safe Zone network<\/a>,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m happy to share more about them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biegalski is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. She received her BS from The Ohio State University and her PhD and MS degrees from the Case School of Engineering.<\/p>\n

\u201cI studied structural engineering,\u201d she said. \u201cI worked as a structural engineering consultant for 10 years monitoring, modeling, and designing bridges and buildings. I\u2019ve had the opportunity to climb on and analyze some of the tallest and longest bridges in Cleveland, DC, and Philadelphia.\u201d<\/p>\n

She climbs on fewer bridges these days, but Biegalski still enjoys hiking, biking, backpacking, skiing, and rock climbing. Her daughters Katia, 9, and Anya, 7, often accompany her.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey love STEM and outdoor adventures and play multiple sports and instruments,\u201d she said. \u201cSo, we stay very active.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biegalski stays active indoors, as well, and goes into action leading many EF project presentation days throughout a semester\u2014riding the wave of \u201centhusiasm, energy, and dedication\u201d displayed by her students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
