Chad Black

Chad Black is an expert in the history of the Andean region of South America, which includes Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia among other countries. He studies the late colonial period before and after those countries became independent from Spanish rule. His research focuses on women’s uses of customary legal practices to assert social and economic autonomy, the impact of the independence period on social relations, and the conflict between institutional and popular norms of sexual behaviors.
